Rush Hour

Dear Rush,

I have to take issue with you. But I want to let you have your say before I have mine.
“Well, it’s right out of Adolf Hitler’s playbook. Now, what are the similarities between the Democrat Party today and the Nazi Party in Germany? Well, the Nazis were against big business. They hated big business and of course we all know that they were opposed to Jewish capitalism. They were insanely, irrationally against pollution. They were for two years mandatory voluntary service to Germany. They had a whole bunch of make-work projects to keep people working, one of which was the Autobahn. They were against cruelty and vivisection of animals, but in the radical sense of devaluing human life, they banned smoking. They were totally against that. They were for abortion and euthanasia of the undesirables, as we all know, and they were for cradle-to-grave nationalized healthcare.”

“The Obama health care logo is damn close to a Nazi swastika logo. There are far more similarities between Nancy Pelosi and Adolf Hitler than between these people showing up at town halls to protest a Hitler-like policy that’s being heralded by a Hitler-like logo. Oh, another similarity. Obama is asking citizens to rat each other out like Hitler did!”

Now that you’ve had your say, Rush, I’ll have mine:

The best thing one could say about the Nazi Party is that they were thugs. What’s the best thing to say about you? You… well...

Nothing comes to mind.

Wait! Thought of something!

The Nazis were almost as good as you at propaganda. But you’re an outright liar! You lie and you swear to it. You make it up and shovel it right onto the air. From your lips, “grass roots movement” becomes horse manure.

The Nazis weren’t against big business any more than big business was against the Nazis. Unless you consider Krupp a family store, ask someone on your staff who reads to look up who supplied the gas canisters for “Hitler’s playbook.” (Not the kind of cute little canisters you use for your home barbeque grill.)

The Nazis, you say, “were insanely, irrationally against pollution.” That sounds pretty serious to me. By the way, are you getting professional help?

“They [your Nazis] were against cruelty and vivisection of animals, but in the radical sense of devaluing human life, they banned smoking.” What in the world of rational people does this mean? Are you getting professional help?

“…and they were for cradle-to-grave nationalized healthcare.” Wow! Guess you’ve got me there. Are you getting professional help—or doesn’t your health care insurance cover it?

As far as your mad contention that “The Obama health care logo is damn close to a Nazi swastika logo” and even madder perception that there are “similarities between Nancy Pelosi and Adolf Hitler” and, alarmingly maddest of all, “Obama is asking citizens to rat each other out like Hitler did!” — Is your brain as drug-besotted as your bladder?

Time to level with you, Rush. Nothing compares to Hitler, not even a megalomaniac like you. Well, maybe Pol Pot. But try as you will keep trying, you’re not in their league. I’ll say this for you: you’ve got Goebbels beat.

  1. They're carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on healthcare." was uttered by the Shrieker of the House the day before Limbaugh spoke. The press said almost nothing about Pelosi but foamed at the mouth about Limbaugh. TURN OFF THE RADIO!! How do we turn off the #2 in line to the Presidency? The people who did show up with Swastikas were making a statement about what they are seeing thier government turning into and they are scared. No less so than the people under the previous administration who protested the Patriot Act. Just keeping it fair and balanced. Limbaugh has no power. Pelosi believes she has absolute power which corrupts absolutely. And a compliant press. See the comparison to the Nazis now?

  2. Steve, re "See the comparison to the Nazis now?":

NOT IN THE LEAST. I can't and won't get into a debate here, but you're preposterously comparing apples and oranges. Health care for all to the Patriot Act?! Organized thuggery and death threats to anything?! I could give you a shopping list of unequal comparisons, but don't want to be drowned out by a loud-mouth on the radio.

  3. No, sir, I am comparing the REACTIONS to apples and oranges. People reacted against the Patriot Act by disrupting sessions of Congress ( The Pink Ladies, etc.) because it was their right as Americans to do so. People are being told by the President and The Speaker of the House to shut up! The people being told to shut up are viewing those kinds of absolute power controls as Nazi-like. Are we going to have a health care Kent State reaction by these people? I hope not. as for your laundry list, I imagine that too has a two sided blade. Who are the organized thugs? The teamsters who were brought in to stop cancer patients and people in wheel chairs from offering their thoughts? Thought police Ray? Is That what we're coming to? I loathe what Limbaugh says too. But I will defend to the death his right to say it!

  4. Voicing your dissent by wearing pink or by driving an ice cream truck around the Capitol is one thing, but murdering three police officers...

staging an on-air mock-assassination of the Speaker of the House...

a sitting governor openly flirting with the idea of secession...

    spray-painting swastikas at a congressman's office...

    inciting violence...

    race-baiting...

    denial...

and finally, openly displaying a loaded gun at a public event featuring the President of the United States...

Honestly, there is no comparison between the protests of the Bush Administration and today. Can you imagine what would have happened if a man was brandishing a loaded firearm at a Bush rally in 2004? Or October, 2001? Or better yet, a Muslim man? A dark-skinned Muslim man? Armed with... oh, what's legal these days... how about a freakin' mini-gun! How about 10 men 'peacefully assembling' that way? How about 10,000?

Or how about what has already been issued as 'protest' against Obama Administration: hate, violence, racism, insurrection, ignorance, slander, libel, murder, war-mongering, and now Nazism. This is the President of the United States we are talking about here. Our Captain. A husband. A father. A fellow American. A fellow man! All he wants for our people is health care, the same health care that healed Britain after World War II and the Blitz. Blasted HEALTH CARE! And that warrants comparing the President to the head of the Nazis?

Rush, you were probably voted 'Most likely to look like Hermann Göring' in high-school. You've got his eyes, his build, his drug-addiction, his anger, his stupidity, and you probably even fit into his pajamas. (Come on, you even celebrate the same birthday as him!)

If you took just a fraction of the medicine you incessantly shove down America's throat, I believe it would be more than even you could stomach.

  5. "The press said almost nothing about Pelosi but foamed at the mouth about Limbaugh". That's because Pelosi didn't compare these people to Nazis. She had the shred of intellect necessary to realize how absurd it would be to make such a comparison.

Can't say the same about Limbaugh.

And why the hyperbolic escalations, Steve? A health care Kent State? Are you suggesting that Pelosi's observation that some people were carrying swastikas is going to lead to a violent government massacre-- over health care?
And "thought police"? Where do you come up with this stuff?

This is a classic use of fear tactics meant to scare people into an irrational viewpoint. Your defense of Rush's (and the protestors') right of free speech is heroic, but I think you need to reconsider your presentation. Defending free speech is admirable; defending irrational insinuations and promoting fear is deplorable.

  6. Just a "worst case" look at both sides.

    1. Bush/Cheney = Croney buddies in the Oil business, USA control over the world of economics, Blood for oil, CIA tourture.Patriot Act, Wire Taping

    2. Facist, dictator, communist? ( based on BHO hand picked "Czars", crazy?)

If I may suggst a relative moral equivilency -

1 = the evil and corrupt Bernie Maddoff
    2 = Stalin? Hitler?

Keep in mind please this is intended as "worst case" in the spectrum of possibilities. Personally I'd opt for the evil Capitalistic USA bullying the world over the "rule" of a Dictator, even if his way in, was "for my own good", the environment, social justice and spreading the wealth.

(Google a recent article by US Representative Paul Broun claiming we're on the edge of a Dictatorship)
